Quexst Healthcare brings you the opportunity to train with different experts in UBE Spine Surgery. We offer short duration fellowship of 1 week. Orthopedic spine surgery entails understanding of the diagnosis, treatment, and management of all musculoskeletal conditions of the back, neck and spine. A spine surgeon needs to be highly trained and extensively experienced, to use the most advanced treatment modalities to treat all bone, joint, nerve, muscle and tendon disorders of the spine, neck and back, from simple to complex. A spine surgeon needs to understand the roles of physiatrists, and use nonsurgical and less-invasive options first, opting for surgery only if necessary. It is important to understand the minimally invasive surgical procedures to treat spine conditions and injuries, and the rehabilitation to restore strength of patients. Spine has Neuro and Orthopedic specialties involved and it is important to learn to under , diagnose and deal with both , working in collaboration with the neurologist.

Post graduate orthopedic Surgeons and Neuro surgeons are eligible to join this fellowship. Depending on learning objectives, number of years surgical experience is also important.

HANDS ON

For fellows joining the fellowship program, intention is to give hands-on exposure, however, the level of hands-on exposure is at the discretion of the mentor / faculty. Number of cases for hands-on depends on patient flow at the time of fellowship and no fixed number of cases commitment can be given.
Fellows must adhere to the hospital schedule and meet the timing expectation to get the best exposure.

Its is important to write a good statement of Purpose to bring visibility to your existing skills to get better practical exposure

YOUR DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

CV: Your Curriculum Vitae reflects your educational background as well as your professional profile. It needs to be up-to-date with all important details like qualification, experience, achievements given in detail. Its is also important to give 2 professional references to complete the CV requirements.

SOP: Your statement of Purpose is the most important document, as it describes why you want to do the fellowship. It shows your keenness to learn new professional skills. It portrays your existing knowledge base. It is an important document to be specially prepared for the fellowship opportunity you are seeking to join.

UG & PG CERTIFICATES: These documents are proofs of the qualifications written about in CV.

COUNCIL REGISTRATION: Your medical council registration details are important, as without these, you do not become eligible to practice and therefore also for the learning opportunity.

HOW TO REGISTER

The steps to be followed are as follows:

Send us copies of your Medical Council Registration, degrees, and your CV in the specified format.
Send us your statement of Purpose of Motivation letter stating your learning objectives.
Let us know preferred & suitable time slot for your rotation. We typically start on First Monday of the month
Your request with documents provided by you will be sent for eligibility confirmation and availability of time slot requested by you.
On receiving confirmation, the eligibility confirmation cum proforma invoice will be sent to you. The initial booking amount needs be paid as mentioned in Proforma Invoice.
Our concierge service can help you book the travel and Stay. You could also seek these services from your travel agency.
Pay the balance fee as per the schedule given in the Proforma Invoice and start making the plans for joining the fellowship.
You will receive an undertaking to be signed by you. Please go through the undertaking carefully and send us the signed copy of the same.
Please make sure you contact the contact person on the say before joining the fellowship and confirm the time and location.

Terms & Conditions

As the fellowships/observerships are conducted in private hospitals, to protect the interest of the patients and as per medical ethics, the student will only observe the patients and surgeries. The intention is to give the student opportunity to learn through hands-on experience, however, the decision to provide wash-up or scrub opportunity to the student will be taken by the mentor during the rotation period depending on the skills and knowledge of the student.
This is full time learning opportunity, student is expected to be present for minimum 10 hours for 6 days a week
The student is expected to have basic knowledge of Spine Surgery with sufficient clinical experience.
If Local Medical Council registration is required. The cost of medical council registration will be borne by the student.
The minimum rotation duration is 1 week(6 days) as defined in eligibility confirmation letter. The clinical rotation period is without a break. There are pre-defined start and end dates. Students need to comply to the pre-defined dates.
Patient flow with any mentor and at different time of the year cannot be predicted and cannot be committed to.
A student is expected to travel to learn, if required where ever the mentor is conducting a case. The student could be asked to be present to assist / observe a case at any time of the day.
The registration is valid for 6 months. The student must join the rotation within 6 months of registration date.
The Initial Instalment of fees paid by the student is non-refundable under all conditions. In case of cancellation of rotation by the mentor or teaching hospital, the same will be re-scheduled & no refund will be given.
The proforma invoice defines the scheduled dates of your rotation. The same can be modified only once, minimum one month before the joining date. The modification request must be sent on support@quexst.com in writing. the new scheduled date must be within 6 months of date of registration.

FAQs

1. Are the fellowships structured?

Fellowships are not structured, the fellow is expected to get complete practical knowledge, hence the fellow will shadow the mentor and will be involved in many professional activities as advised by the mentor

2. I am MBBS, not a qualified surgeon, but I have been doing surgeries, am I eligible for fellowships?

Only those with Surgery qualification and registered with Medical Council are eligible for fellowships. MBBS doctors may be given an opportunity to observe.

3. How many surgeries can I get to work on?

The Patient flow is not predictable, hence number of surgeries are not committed to. The mentor will try to give the best possible practical exposure to the fellow. However, the mentor will ensure good hands-on exposure.

4. Will I get to do hands on? Can I get to do independent surgeries?

The intension is to give hands-on exposure, however, the level participation in the surgery by the fellow is at complete discretion of the mentor. Independent surgeries are not given to the fellow.

5. What kind of certificate will I get?

You will get a fellowship certificate signed by your mentor, on successful completion. The awarded certificate is not a registrable qualification.

6. Is 1 week duration mandatory?

Yes. Attendance of 6 days duration is mandatory to earn fellowship certificate.

Are online fellowships available?

No, online fellowships are not available.

7. Can I get stipend during fellowships?

These are short duration fees applicable fellowships. No stipend is paid.

8. What are the activities involved in fellowship?

Fellowship student is expected to participate and learn through OPD, OT, Wards. Understanding, analyzing all cases and maintain a logbook of all cases worked on.

9. Are the fellowships accredited?

These fellowships are not accredited.

10. Can I pay after completing the fellowship?

The time slot of the expert mentor needs to be booked prior to the fellowship dates, hence full payment needs to received, minimum one month before the fellowship start date.

11. Can I discuss with the mentor and then register?

It is not possible for the mentor to talk to every student, hence a good statement of purpose(SOP) needs to be submitted. The mentor will review the SOP confirm on meeting the learning objectives of the fellow. The purpose is served by the SOP confirmation, which is given as eligibility confirmation.

12. Can you share references of students who have done fellowship with the mentor suggested to me?

Yes. It is possible to share references , once the prospective student shows the commitment to join by submitting the required documents. Please be in touch with our counselors for the same.

13. Can I get an attachment in my city?

14. Which documents are needed before registering for the fellowship?

Copies of MBBS, Post graduate certificate, medical council registration and Statement of purpose with the latest updated CV.

15. Can I register for a fellowship without my CV?

All documents are mandatory for fellowship registration. The documents required are Copies of MBBS, Post graduate certificate, medical council registration and Statement of purpose with the latest updated CV.

It is important to submit updated CV and SOP to get good fellowship experience. It is through these documents, your mentor understands your professional expertise.

16. I am a third year student of MS/ DNB. Am I eligible for fellowships

It is better to opt for fellowship after completing the PG.

17.How much in advance do I need to register for a fellowship?

It is good to plan and register for the fellowship 4 months advance and latest at least 2 months before the start date.

18.When should I reconfirm my fellowship schedule, so as to book my stay and travel?

Fellow must confirm the joining date 45 days before the start date.

19.Where will I stay during the fellowship?

You need to manage your own stay arrangement, closest to the place of work.

20.What are the typical timings during fellowship?

The fellow is expected to follow the timings as defined by the hospital / mentor, Typically about 10 hrs a day, Monday to Friday. However, depending on the cases, the mentor may ask the fellow to attend surgeries on weekend also.

21.Can I change my fellowship schedule?

The fellowship once scheduled should not be changed. Only under emergency conditions and approved by the mentor the schedule may be changed. However, a change will have commercial impact.

25.I want to do the fellowship together with my friend. Is this possible?

It would be possible, however, please check with the counselor availability of the positions with the mentor. We typically one student to a mentor at a time. However, based on the patient flow, it is possible to assign more than one fellow, some times.
